After eight years of rebuilding, yesterday (Nov. 3) marked day one that the World Trade Center opened for business since the 9/11 tragedy thirteen years ago.

Mass media publishing company Condé Nast began its move to 1 World Trade Center on Monday, becoming the first commercial tenant of the building.

The 104-story, $3.9 billion skyscraper 1 World Trade Center is 60% leased, with one tenant being the General Services Administration, an independent agency of the U.S. government, which rented out 275,000 square feet.

“The New York City skyline is whole again,” Patrick Foye, executive director of the Port Authority, which owns the restored ground, explained. “(It is) the most secure office building in America.”

On September 11, 2001, more than 2,700 people died when two planes hijacked by al-Qaeda were flown into the twin towers of the World Trade Center.

Observation decks on floors 100-102 are set to open to the public in Spring 2015 with the ability to turn to see either New Jersey, the George Washington Bridge, or Midtown.
