My Big Fat Greek Wedding Sequel Officially Coming!

My Big Fat Greek Wedding is the highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time and it’s probably going to repeat the success, with a sequel being on the way!

Remember the laughing that came with My Big Fat Greek Wedding? Well, you’d better be prepared to relive these moments because the film is coming back with a sequel after all those years. The news has now been confirmed.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding first premiered in 2002 and managed to become the highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time. Revolving around an actual Greek marriage, the audiences were totally entertained. A second installment is now scheduled to arrive, with Nia Vardalos first discussing it this past spring. She spent four years writing the script and is coming back as Toula with her husband Ian (John Corbett) for another round in the Kirk Jones-directed film.

The sequel of My Big Fat Greek Wedding will reportedly see the Portokalos family in new adventures, as there’s a well-kept secret out and a new wedding ceremony taking place. Gold Circle Films, HBO, and Playtone will be on production duties, along with the likes of Rita Wilson, Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman. Nia Vardalos will be joining Paul Brooks, Scott Niemeyer, Steven Shareshian as an executive producer, while Universal will distribute the film.

As a Greek guy, there’s only one thing to say about this to everyone else: If the first film wasn’t enough to convince you, I sincerely hope this upcoming sequel gets you to go to a Greek wedding, just to see how realistic it all is. Even though it’s the norm for people in my country, it’s an experience you wouldn’t possibly want to live without every single time.
