Billy Boyd Returns To Middle-Earth

Billy Boyd, who plays Pippin in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, returns to Middle-Earth with a new, original song for The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies.

Well…Sort of.

Billy Boyd, who played Peregrin Took (Pippin) in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, is returning to Peter Jackson’s Middle-Earth as a

singer?

Yes, a singer. As some of you may remember, Billy Boyd lent his singing talents to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King soundtrack, on the song “The Sacrifice of Faramir.” Here is the scene cued up to Boyd’s performance:

Boyd wrote the new song, “The Last Goodbye,” for the last Hobbit film, The Battle of the Five Armies, due in theaters December 16th. In an interview with Billboard, Billy Boyd spoke of writing and recording his new song:

“We focused on not just the final installment, but moreso on this 10-year epic adventure,” says Boyd. “A song to sum up the six movies. We recorded in Wellington, New Zealand, at one point traveling to Auckland to Neil Finn’s studio — where we recorded some of the guitar. It was surreal to be in his studio, as he did the song for [2012’s] The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”

You can stream the new song via Billboard.com  The full soundtrack to The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hits stores and iTunes Dec. 9.
