NBCThe grand jury that reviewed the case of Darren Wilson has reached a verdict tonight at 8pm CT to not indict
the police officer in the shooting of Michael Brown, and that there was no probable cause to indict Wilson.
The announcement was given by Robert McCulloch, county prosecutor, to a quiet courtroom while a loud crowd of protesters stood outside. He began by extending his condolences to Michael Brown’s family, and listed the details of the case as it happened. He expressed his frustration with the 24 hour news cycles for exaggerating the news and heightening distrust. McCulloch also expressed his frustration with social media reporting false testimony and the adjusted testimony for each witness.
McCulloch acknowledged there was a crime committed and that Darren Wilson was responsible for the death of Michael Brown. But it begged the question of whether or not shooting Michael Brown was within his duties as an officer of the law.
He emphasized that the grand jury were the only people who could separate fact from fiction from hearing the full case.
The case regarded Darren Wilson’s shooting of unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown, who eyewitnesses say was shot while pleading with Wilson “don’t shoot” with his hands up. McCulloch detailed the case and the altercation as it happened.
Governor Jay Nixon has been preparing for the event by making sure that shelters and churches would be open for food and medical care, and he and other officials are urging that “regardless of the decision, people on all sides show tolerance, mutual respect and restraint.”
Prosecutors had arranged for the decision to be announced at night, and it has left people wondering why.

Law enforcement was prepared for unrest in the event, and the superintendent of Ferguson Public Schools, Lawrence Larrew, has closed school on Tuesday in anticipation of “increase in traffic and possible demonstrations in our area.”
Protesters and police have worked out rules of engagement in the event there are further clashes. A state of emergency has been declared and the National Guard is ready for action.
It’s going to be a long night in Ferguson, and all we can hope is that there is no more bloodshed following the verdict.
