Ferguson Residents Respond Explosively To Long-Awaited Grand Jury Decision

Some residents in Ferguson, MI flooded the streets last night, looting and burning, expressing their frustration over the grand jury’s decision.

As you may have seen all over your news stations and social media, the grand jury that reviewed the case of Darren Wilson, deciding whether or not to indict him on murder charges for Mike Brown, released a statement to the nation last night (Nov. 24) that he will not be indicted.

The announcement was given by Robert McCulloch, county prosecutor, to a quiet courtroom while a loud crowd of protesters standing outside.

Many of the protestors already expected the case to turn out in Darren’s favor, a pattern we’ve seen too often in America when it comes to cases involving police and black men. However, it was the verdict that sent protestors into a rage, a build-up of frustration for a system many claim was never set up to benefit them in the first place.

The forms of protest quickly went from peaceful to an overall “over it” attitude. Groups of people gathered in major cities across the nation last night to express their disappointment and hurt. Three bridges in New York City were shut down, the 110 Highway in Los Angeles was blocked off both ways, and Ferguson, the epicenter of it all, arrested 61 people amid the unrest that unraveled at the announcement of the grand jury’s decision.

Cars were set on fire and signs raised high, as the embittered residents voiced that “enough was enough.”
