While recently reviving the promotion of his latest studio album, Trigga, Trey Songz is back and serving once again. The singer has now gone and recorded a cover of Mariah Carey’s festive classic, renaming it to simply “All I Want For Christmas”.
On top of a not-so-good reworking of the original melody, Trey Songz lays his vocals and sings the lyrics to the Christmas love song. While his vocals are perfectly on point, the overall cover sounds a little bit out of place. Perhaps it’s the singer’s very own soulful style that should take over the pop production here and unfortunately it never happens. There was so much potential for this rendition to be an urban festive heaven, but it didn’t turn out to be quite that, or even close.
However, let’s not forget that there’s no place for bitter feeling this time of the year. We shall give Trey Songz props for the effort and hope he has a happy holiday.
