Imagine Dragons had one very successful run with their previous studio album, Night Visions, and its hit singles, “Radioactive” and “Demons”. Since they’ve now started promoting its follow-up, Smoke + Mirrors, the band has now released a new single, titled “Gold”.
“Gold” has been produced by well-known hitmaker, Alex Da Kid, and serves as a follow-up to the era’s lead single, “I Bet My Life”. Here’s what Imagine Dragons’ frontman, Dan Reynolds, had to say about it:
“’Gold’ is one of the last songs written for this album. I came home from tour with my head spinning and decided to run away for a bit to the west coast and reflect/write about the last couple years. If you listen closely to the sample of me whistling into my laptop by the ocean, you can hear a wave that crashed while I was recording it. I loved the take because it seemed to crash perfectly in time. It takes me back to that spot every time I hear the song.”
The track finds Imagine Dragons exploring a new territory, as it’s a dark and twisted tale full of haunting noises and whistles, with a more experimental kind of folk-rock sound in hand. Their significant rock style is once again all over it, but they’ve obviously gone deeper this time around. Give it a listen below.
