An 18-year-old man was arrested in Merseyside, England on suspicion of the hacks against PSN and Xbox Live, as well as threats to “kill.” He is also being held accountable for unauthorized access to computer paraphernalia as well as intent to commit other crimes.
This individual is also under suspicion of something known as “Swatting.” Swatting is a fake phone call made to emergency personnel in order to bring armed forces to their house. Several organizations have been working together on this investigation as part of a joint effort.
Organizations such as South East Regional Crime Unit, FBI, National Cyber Crime Unit, and the UK Cyber Crime have been working diligently to catch these criminals. They have confiscated several electronic devices from the suspect, which will undergo further examination. They have made it perfectly clear they are fully prepared to prosecute any offenders.
For those who are new to this subject: on Christmas Day a group known as the Lizard Squad hacked into the PSN and Xbox Live severs and shut them down by overloading the networks with traffic. I’m not sure if they had a goal in mind in shutting down all the servers, but don’t take away my video games! That is my absolute downtime, hopping on Assassin’s Creed, or showing them scrubs whose the real champ at Grand Theft Auto online.
Youtuber ChampChong talks about Lizard Squad.
