Parents Get Tattoo That Replicates Daughter’s Birthmark

Most parents will do what they can to give their child a great childhood, Honey-Rae Phillips’ parents went a further, getting matching birthmark tattoos.

Most parents will do whatever they can to ensure their child has a wonderful childhood, but the parents of Honey-Rae Phillips went a step further to show their support and love.

18 month old Honey-Rae was born with a strawberry rose birthmark that covers half of the right side of her body. As she grew, the mark grew with her. As devastating as her mum, Tanya Phillips, found this, she finally found the inspiration for the duplicate tattoo she was going to get with her husband, Adam: a birthmark identical to her daughter’s.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, Tanya said:

“Most people might think it’s very extreme but to us it was the natural thing to do to ensure our daughter never felt different or alone in the world.

Although in our eyes she was perfect, I knew other people would cruelly point and stare at her.

For the first few months of her life, whenever we went out, I made sure her legs were covered up. I couldn’t cope with stranger’s curious glances or whispering comments.

I didn’t want sympathy or pity or people feeling sorry for Honey-Rae.”

Last summer, Tanya took Honey-Rae, then less than a year old, shopping in sandals and a pair of shorts, and noticed an old couple whispering and staring at her daughter’s leg, which confirmed all of her fears. That became the decisive moment in getting her tattoo.

Adam had the tattoo done as a Christmas present last year, whilst Tanya was tattooed as a 40th birthday present.
