It all seems to be falling into place for Glee star, Darren Criss. He recently announced his return to Broadway as Hedwig in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and is now a part of an industry reading of a 17 Again musical.
This is a new musical based on the 2009 film starring Zac Efron and Matthew Perry, which, for those of you who haven’t seen it, focuses around a 37-year-old man who jumps at the chance to relive his high school days, offering him a second chance to fix his life.
The 17 Again reading will also feature Steve Rosen, Craig Bierko, Caissie Levy, Andy Mientus, Leslie Kritzer, Jennifer Damiano, Carly Hughes, George Wendt, Derek Klena, Taylor Louderman, Jackie Hoffman, Nikki Bohne, Catherine Ricafort, Sydney Shepherd, Ryan Vasquez, Raymond Lee, and Max Crumm.
Songwriters Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner (First Date and Secondhand Lions) wrote the score for this production, which is being directed by Hairspray film director Adam Shankman and Marco Pennette has written a book for the stage musical.
Producing the show is Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, and this reading is one of multiple projects currently under their development.
