Sir Elton John Calls For Dolce And Gabbana Boycott

Elton John has called for a boycott of the Dolce and Gabbana fashion label after the designers referred to IVF babies as “synthetic”.

Sir Elton John has called for a boycott of the Dolce and Gabbana fashion label after the designers referred to IVF babies as “synthetic”. Dolce and Gabbana themselves have voiced their opposition to gay marriage in the past, but their comments were a step too far for John and his husband, as well as a whole host of celebrities who support his boycott.

In an interview with the Italian magazine Panorama, the business partners, who are both gay and were previously a couple, commented their disagreement with gay families as whole:

“We oppose gay adoptions. The only family is the traditional one. No chemical offsprings and rented uterus: life has a natural flow, there are things that should not be changed.”

Dolce commented:

“You are born to a mother and a father – or at least that’s how it should be. I call children of chemistry, synthetic children. Rented uterus, semen chosen from a catalogue.”

Many celebrities have taken to Twitter to express their support for John and IVF babies, including Victoria Beckham, Ryan Murphy, Ricky Martin and John Barrowman to name just a few.

Gabbana has responded to John’s call for a boycott, saying in a statement:

“It was never our intention to judge other people’s choices. We do believe in freedom and love. We firmly believe in democracy and the fundamental principle of freedom of expression that upholds it. We talked about our way of seeing reality, but it was never our intention to judge other people’s choices.”

Dolce also responded, standing by his words, but stating, “I was talking about my personal view, without judging other people’s choices and decisions.”
