Much to the delight of most internet users (and to the chagrin of grandparents) everywhere, Internet Explorer is finally saying farewell.
Microsoft has officially announced that the arrival of the new Windows 10 operating system will also mark the end of the nearly 20 year run of the Internet Explorer brand.
This comes as little surprise to most internet users, as IE has been lambasted for years due to its sluggishness, lack of extensions and general overall “crapiness.”
The plan is for Microsoft to launch their new browser, currently codenamed “Project Spartan,” along with Windows 10. They are claiming that Spartan will include performance and features designed to allow Internet Explorer to compete with its rivals, namely Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome. Some of these features include annotating web pages as well as integrating functionality with Cortana, Microsoft’s personal assistant software.
While the IE brand will be ending, the browser itself will still exist in some forms of Windows 10, but primarily to ensure compatibility issues don’t arise while the company pushes Project Spartan as the primary way for its users to access the internet.
