Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has swept to victory in Tuesday’s Israeli election.
On March 17, Israelis voted for either Netanyahu of the Likud party or center-left candidate Isaac Herzog. This was an important election for the Obama Administration in that Netanyahu said earlier this week he would not allow for the establishment of a Palestinian state. This, in other words, knocks out the Israeli-Palestinian compromise that has topped President Obama’s top foreign policy goals for several years.
“Against all odds, we achieved a great victory,” Netanyahu told supporters in a packed hall in Tel Aviv. “Now we have to form a strong and stable government.”
Netanyahu also added that he is already in the process of beginning calls to coalition partners in Israel’s rights and religious wings to discuss forming a fresh-faced government structure.
