Apple has reportedly approached some of today’s hottest artists about exclusively streaming some of their music.
The tech giant acquired Beats Music nearly a year ago, which they’ll be relaunching in a few months.
Florence and the Machine has an album release scheduled for June, and Apple may have asked them for exclusive streaming rights of one of the album tracks.
Taylor Swift is another artist they’re interested in partnering with. Considering she’s still dominating the charts with singles from 1989, that sounds like a good move.
Jay-Z launched his new streaming service, Tidal, last month, adding some competition to the market. With two subscription tiers, $9.99/month for standard audio and $19.99 for HD, Tidal’s main appeal is that exclusive content will be available in the coming months for its users.
One can only assume that if these partnership attempts are real, they’re Apple’s attempt at staying ahead.
Beats Music will reportedly offer $9.99/month and $14.99/month services.
Apple hasn’t commented on the reports.
