Jake Gyllenhaal Sprouts New Role In ‘Little Shop Of Horrors’ Play

Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing Seymour in an off-Broadway production of the classic musical comedy, Little Shop of Horrors.

Jake Gyllenhaal is adding an interesting new role to his resume. The Hollywood A-lister will be playing Seymour, the wallflower florist with a man-hungry botanical buddy, in a New York City stage production of the classic musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors.

The performance will be the actor’s first venture into a major musical theater production. Gyllenhaal is best known for more serious roles in film dramas such as Nightcrawler, Jarhead, Zodiac, and Brokeback Mountain.

Little Shop of Horrors gained its greatest popularity through the hit 1980s film version starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin.

The new stage play will have a limited run of three performances July 1-2 at City Center.

Gyllenhaal will be joined in the cast by  Saturday Night Live‘s Taran Killam and Chuck Cooper as the voice of the flesh-chomping giant plant. Ellen Greene will also be returning to the role of Seymour’s dream girl, Audrey. Greene played the part in both the 1982 stage production and the 1986 film.
