It’s been a nice week for Star Wars fans across the globe, with an official trailer for episode VII, a new trailer for the spin-off film Star Wars: Rogue One surfaced and confirms a specific timeline for the popular series. Gareth Edwards, the director, spoke more in detail about the film, paired with the trailer, at a special Star Wars Celebration panel this week.
The trailer itself pans over a large woods-like planet and eventually cuts to the epicenter of evil — the Death Star, with a disruptive and panicked radio broadcast playing in the background. Alec Guinness is then heard speaking, as Obi-Wan Kenobi, saying “For more than a thousand generations, the Jedi knights were the guardians of peace and justice in the Old Republic. Before the dark times, before the Empire.” At the event, Edwards went on to explain that the movie takes place before the original trilogy, but after the events of episode III. Additional plot details began to surface, that indicate the movie will focus on a team of rebels (led by Felicity Jones) will attempt a strike on the Death Star to obtain specific plans to aid their dangerous quest.
Star Wars: Rogue One will begin filming next month and is set to be released sometime in 2016.
