Jeremy Renner States That He Got Into ‘Internet Trouble’ For Black Widow Remark

Jeremy Renner apologizes for jokingly referring to Scarlett Johannson’s Avengers character, Black Widow, as a slut.

Last month Jeremy Renner and Chris Evans got into hot water, when they jokingly referred to fictional Avengers character, Black Widow, as a slut.

This offended a lot of people and they took to the internet to air their comments. Jeremy Renner was very surprised by all of this.

Renner spoke to Conan O’Brien on Monday as a part of his promotional tour for Avengers: Age of Ultron, where his character Hawkeye is in a superhero team with Black Widow. The actor had this to say: “Yeah, it was a joke. Off-colored. Whatever. I’m unapologetic about a lot of things, but I got into a lot of internet trouble. Because that’s a thing now, you can get in,”

He then tried to explain what led to that comment. “Mind you, I was talking about a fictional character and fictional behavior. But, Conan, if you slept with four of the six Avengers, no matter how much fun you had, you’d be a slut,” he said, then added “I’d be a slut.”

Earlier, both Renner and Evans had released apologies in separate statements for the remark. “I am sorry that this tasteless joke about a fictional character offended anyone…It was not meant to be serious in any way. Just poking fun during an exhausting and tedious press tour,” Renner said in his statement.
