Australian actor Tim Pocock is having a great year chasing his dreams in Hollywood.

He first came onto our radar back in 2009 when X-Men Origins: Wolverine was released. Tim played Scott Summers (Young Cyclops), and it really started to open doors for him. It was a huge film franchise, and he was honored to be cast in it. One of the most popular X-Men would have to be Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, so we would have to believe that being cast in his character’s story was a great career launch for him. 

Tim told us, “X-Men was pretty insane, and to get the call saying I got the role…I was sick to my stomach knowing I was up for such a big role, so I didn’t sleep much while I waited to find out. When my agent called me to say I booked it, I was convinced he was calling to say it hadn’t gone my way!”

“Hugh Jackman was really nice. It’s so awesome to have a role model who not only lives up to your expectations but also exceeds them!” he added.

We asked him if, later that year, the success of XMEN helped him to land a role on the very popular Australian series Dance Academy. Tim jokingly replied, “Well, lets just say I can’t dance at all, so you tell me.”

Tim actually moved to Hollywood in 2008, and was living here as a working actor–going to auditions, the daily grind. When X-Men was released, and after landing the part on Dance, he moved back home to Australia, where he filmed 2 seasons. He was also introduced to a huge fan base that he is very grateful for. Dance Academy is the Glee of Australia.

2013 proved to be another great year for Tim. He had a prime time show airing on NBC called Camp, starring Rachel Griffiths.

Tim said, “This was a great shoot, but also a crazy shoot. “I got to co-star with 5 of my Dance Academy cast, and even had a few of the same directors, so it felt like family again. But we were shooting a show set to air in America in Australia, with American accents. We had two dialect coaches on hand at all times.”

I bet they earned their money. Sadly, Camp only ran one season on NBC. Tim, who also struggled from being heavy as a child, really shed the weight to pull off some great shirtless scenes during Camp that built up his fan base from Dance Academy.

Later that year, he filmed Battle Ground, where he played 19-year-old soldier PVT O’leary, who is forced to grow up as he tries to stay alive over the course of one night on a battlefield. The film takes place over one evening, the longest evening of his young life.

Tim told us, “It’s a great movie, but a downer [laughs]. There is just so much happening to these three main characters, as they think of their lives, which they may never return to if they die in battle. It’s a lot to deal with.”

Tim is currently living back in Los Angeles, He shared with us, “Its a hard balance of auditions, being prepared, and trying to stay on top of your game, but I love it.”

He is also very excited about two thriller projects that he has completed. The first is Lemon Tree Passage. He filmed on location in–where else–Australia. “It was just released on DVD, I hope people will see it. Very fun shooting that one,” he said.

It sounds like a scary ride indeed. When a group of backpackers learn of a ghost that is said to appear in the rearview mirror of a speeding car, they set out to recreate with the help of some locals. After speeding down Lemon Tree Passage, a remote road surrounded by dense woods, their jubilation turns to terror as, one-by- one, each passenger begins to disappear in a violent fashion.

Thriller number 2 will be Red Billabong which, ironically enough, he had to fly back to Australia to film. It’s what Tim called, “A thriller creature feature. It will be released in Australia on Halloween, and hopefully in the States not long after.”

Sounds like a nail biter, count us in. In the Australian Outback, two brothers discover old secrets and family lies. As their friends start to go missing, they fear they are being stalked by someone or something from their worst nightmares. But is it just a story? A legend? A hoax? Or is it real?

Another passion for Tim besides acting is composing music. He is also an accomplished opera singer. Having creative outlets keeps him focused. Tim also tells us to stay tuned, because he has some great compositions coming, and thinks his fans will enjoy the new music. But that’s another story.

This is only the beginning of a promising career for Tim Pocock. Whether filming in Hollywood or back in his native Australia, we will be keeping an eye out for great things from him.
