American Idol To End After Next Season

Long running American Idol will come to a close, after 15 years in 2016.

It’s happened.

News came down this morning that Fox has cancelled long running, original reality singing competition ‘American Idol’.

Current judges Jennifer Lopez,  Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. will all return, as will longtime host Ryan Seacrest. The 15th season will kick off in January.
Fox has said that the final season will be “a season-long celebratory event (that will) pay tribute to the past 14 seasons of amazingly talented contestants and the millions of fans who tweeted, texted and championed their Idols.”

Ryan Seacrest released a statement about the news as well:

American Idol has been a big part of my life for so long, it’s frankly hard to imagine it without it,” Ryan said. “It’s been a remarkable journey, and I feel very fortunate to have been part of a show that made television history in countless ways. It’s a show about chasing and fulfilling dreams, and truth be told, it helped some of my own dreams come true too.”
“All the American Idol producers, judges, crew and everyone at Fox have been heroic in their efforts to create, produce and sustain such a groundbreaking show for so many years,” he continued. “I’m so glad they’re going to give us a season-long send off. The last season will undoubtedly be a special and emotional one, but first I’m looking forward to closing out Season 14. The finale is always my favorite part – two live shows with lots of surprises, and, of course, one winner!”

There is buzz surround the final season, that producers will be aiming to have appearances from all of the previous judges, which would include Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul,, Randy Jackson, Kara DioGuardi, Steven Tyler and Ellen DeGeneres. Don’t hold your breath for Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey however, as former executive producer Nigel Lythgoe has stated that Idol suffered a “major failing” bringing them aboard. Will current producers reach out to them?
Who knows.
Are you guys sad to see Idol go?
