Dawson’s Creek SHOCKER: Joey And Pacey Almost Didn’t End Up Together?!

Thankfully it all worked out. Show runners have revealed that Dawson’s Creek almost ended up without pairing Joey and Pacey, instead having her with Dawson.

NOT. ACCEPTABLE.

When ‘Dawson’s Creek’ aired from 1998 to 2003, it gave the fans a love triangle for the ages with the 3 main stars of the show.

James Van Der Beek (Dawson), Joshua Jackson (Pacey) and Katie Holmes (Joey) would go back and forth throughout the 6 seasons, but when the series called it a wrap, Miss Potter wound up with fan favorite Pacey!!

Co-showrunners Kevin Williamson and Paul Stupin however, dropped a major bombshell at the recent ATX Television Festival that Joey originally was supposed to wind up with Dawson.

Stupin revealed:

“It was clear to us that it was she and Dawson who would wind up together. Halfway through, Kevin calls me and says, ‘I changed my mind,’”

Williamson said that he had written Joey ending up with Dawson while working on the series finale script, but decided it wasn’t what needed to happen after the 5 year jump:

“I wanted it to be a twist on the teen genre but also wanted it to be surprising, honest and real and say something about soul mates and what soul mates can be,” Kevin explained. “That’s why we did it that way. When you left the show in that last moment, they’re a family and everyone got what they wanted. There was fulfillment and they were all happy.”

Of course, when discussing the series finale at the festival, Williamson had to address the major tearjerker from said finale….

The death of Jen Linley (Michelle Williams)!!

“They had dealt with the death of a parent but they hadn’t dealt with the death of someone in their circle,”Kevin said of his beloved characters. “Until you deal with death, that’s one more way of coming of age.”

Can anybody, to this day, get through either of these scenes without bawling like a baby?

The answer is NO.

MISS. THIS. SHOW. SO. MUCH.

Are you guys happy that Joey wound up with Pacey or did you want her with Dawson?
