Apple will release a new music streaming app on June 30th to all Apple devices. The service will also be available on Android phones. It will feature a radio station called ‘Beats1’ and is all about music run by Zane Lowe. Apple also promises this will be a platform that will allow musicians to connect with fans and it will be called ‘Connect’. Drake stated that it, “simplifies everything for the modern musician like myself and for the modern music consumer.”
This new feature will serve as a direct competition to Spotify, a popular streaming service, but the CEO doesn’t seem worried. CEO Daniel Ek tweeted, “Oh ok” in response to the announcement but later deleted the tweet. He retweeted another tweet that accused Apple of grasping at straws.
Will Apple Music be able to compete with streaming giant Spotify? That remains to be seen. It all depends on what Apple offers and if it can get artists to jump exclusively to them and no longer allow Spotify to stream their music. Only time will tell.
