In the last few days Ruby Rose has been all over social media. The new Orange Is The New Black star is causing a bit of a storm..
The best bit is that she identifies as gender fluid.
“Gender fluidity is not really feeling like you’re at one end of the spectrum or the other. For the most part, I definitely don’t identify as any gender. I’m not a guy; I don’t really feel like a woman, but obviously I was born one. So, I’m somewhere in the middle, which–in my perfect imagination–is like having the best of both sexes.”
Last year Rose starred in and produced a silent film all about gender fluidity and gender roles.
Whilst the film shows her identity as being quite extreme (which has caused people to criticise it – swearing and smoking are perhaps a little stereotypical) it is wonderful that this is hitting the mainstream and shows that it’s okay to have an identity that’s seen as different.
She said it’s about “gender roles, Trans, and what it is like to have an identity that deviates from the status quo.”
