Eddie Van Halen Criticizes Former And Present Bandmates In New Interview

In a new interview with Billboard, Eddie Van Halen criticizes and slams former band members Gary Cherone, Michael Anthony, and David Lee Roth.

Rock Icon Eddie Van Halen has shared this thoughts on his present and former band mates of Van Halen, and he does not paint a great picture.

In an interview with Billboard , the legendary guitarist slammed David Lee Roth , Gary Cherone, and Michael Anthony.

Eddie said that “He [Roth] does not want to be my friend,” then added that “Roth’s perception of himself is different than who he is in reality. We’re not in our 20s anymore. We’re in our 60s. Act like you’re 60. I stopped coloring my hair, because I know I’m not going to be young again.”

But he saved the really harsh comments for Michael Anthony , and criticized his singing and bass playing: “Every note Mike [Anthony] ever played, I had to show him how to play. Before we’d go on tour, he’d come over with a video camera and I’d have to show him how to play all the parts,” Van Halen said. He even went on to describe Anthony’s vocals as akin to “a piccolo trumpet” and that “he [Anthony] is not a singer. He just has a range from hell.”

He was a little bit kinder to Cherone though, in which he slammed him for his choice of outfits: “We were getting ready to go on tour, and all of a sudden, I see this John Travolta outfit — these big lapels and a crazy jacket. He’s like, ‘This is my stage outfit.’ That’s when I realized it wasn’t going to work.” He made it clear, though, that he harbors no animosity towards Cherone, stating that “I don’t dislike Gary at all.”

After reading that, you have to wonder if any of the former band members will retaliate at all.
