Emma Watson To Star In The Circle Film Adaptation Opposite Tom Hanks

Emma Watson is set to star alongside Tom Hanks in The Circle, a film adaptation of Dave Egger’s novel, set to begin filming in September.

Emma Watson is one busy lady!

Currently filming the much anticipated live action Disney film Beauty and the Beast, Watson has also signed on to play in The Circle alongside actor Tom Hanks, after actress Alicia Vikander dropped out.

The film will be adapted from Dave Eggers “tech satire” book and directed by James Ponsoldt, who is also set to also write the screenplay.

As summarised by Variety on Emma Watson’s role:

“Watson will play a young woman who is hired for a big job in an Internet company called the Circle, which links users’ personal emails, social media, banking, and purchasing with their universal operating system, resulting in one online identity and a new age of civility and transparency. The novel turns into a contemporary thriller about the perils of life in a digital age where personal data is collected, sifted and monetized and used for surveillance, rendering privacy obsolete.”

This follows in a long line of roles for the 25-year-old actress who was last seen in Noah with Russell Crowe. Her next film, Regression, also starring Ethan Hawke and her Harry Potter co-star David Thewlis, is scheduled to hit theatres in October 2015.

The Circle will be produced by Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, and shooting is set to begin in September of this year.
