Jimmy Kimmel: Kids Explaining Same-Sex Marriage

Jimmy Kimmel and his crew hit the streets to ask kids their thoughts on same-sex marriage.

In a manner only the likes of Jimmy Kimmel could ever get away with, on Monday, the TV show host sent a crew out onto the streets to once and for all prove the critics wrong who have said children can’t understand same-sex marriage.

Unsurprisingly, some of the responses given to him were humorous and rather enlightening. One girl asserted, with great confidence, that anyone should be able to get married, while a boy agreed with her views, saying that marriage should be a right to be had by all. Both also made comments regarding their own prospective marriages; when asked whether she might like to one day tie the knot, the girl responded with a yes, adding:

“When I’m 30.”

The boy meanwhile admitted that he would never tie the knot – his reason being:

“Because when you get married, the other person is entitled to any money the other person has.”

Critics of the historic ruling made by the Supreme Court, which legalises same-sex marriages in all 50 states, have voiced concerns regarding how to explain the move to their children.

This is not the first time Kimmel has used children to great comic effect or to prove people wrong on an issue, and it’s unlikely to be the last. After all, why should he stop asking a population who can so clearly parse out controversial issues?
