Confederate Flags Welcome President Obama In Oklahoma

Confederate battle flags were waved as President Obama arrived in Oklahoma City on Wednesday.

Protestors welcomed President Barack Obama to Oklahoma by waving Confederate battle flags. Obama arrived in Oklahoma City on Wednesday ahead of a scheduled visit to a federal prison as part of his recent focus on criminal justice issues.

The protest was organized by a local man named Andrew Duncomb, who calls himself “the Black Rebel” and included approximately 10 Confederate battle flags. Duncomb believes the flag represents proud Southern heritage, and insists the flag isn’t “a symbol of racism”. He organized a similar rally on Saturday in support of the symbol of racism and plans on organizing more in the future.

Despite the controversial nature of the protest, the large crowd remained quite peaceful. One verbal exchange was reported, but aside from that the pro-flag protestors and other members of the crowd simply ignored one another.

While the rally may not have affected President Obama, it left one local woman in tears. Oklahoma resident Sequoya Turner stayed behind after the protestors left in an effort to make up for the appalling display. She said the Confederate flag isn’t commonly seen, and felt that Obama “should’ve had a better welcome” than the one he received.
