Leo Gets His Beard On In The Spectacular Trailer For The Revenant

Director Alejandro González Iñárritu follows up his Oscar winning Birdman with The Revenant, the stunning first trailer for which has been released online.

This one’s a stunner.

Director Alejandro González Iñárritu follows up his Oscar winning Birdman  with The Revenant, the trailer for which has just been released. On first impressions it appears as though Mr. Iñárritu may be giving himself a good shot of being back among the nominees come award season again if the film can live up to the potential shown in the first glimpse. Take a look for yourself, and prepare to be impressed by Leonardo DiCaprio’s magnificent beard:

The Revenant stars four time Academy Award nominee and one time teen heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio alongside star of the upcoming Kray Twins biopic Legend Tom Hardy, and is shot by two time Academy Award winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki.

Unsurprisingly, expectations are high for Iñárritu’s sixth feature film, but The Revenant is looking both bleak and beautiful, a combination the director does so well, so often. It’s certainly not going to be a lighthearted romp that’s for sure! Here’s the official synopsis via 20th Century Fox:

Inspired by true events, The Revenant is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.

Might this be the film that finally gets a beardy-looking Leo his Oscar? Will Tom Hardy put himself in the frame come awards season? Or how about a hat-trick of back, to back, to back golden statuettes for Lubezki? The Revenant releases on December 25th as a Christmas gift to us all! If it’s anywhere near as grim as Iñárritu’s Amores perros  or 21 Grams  then it won’t be the most cheerful of gifts, but one that looks stunning all the same.
