Single moms beware of The First Amendment Defense Act!

This bill is one of the battle lines between religious freedom and the freedom of consenting adults of any gender to marry whom they wish. The purpose of the First Amendment Defense Act is “to prevent discriminatory treatment of any person on the basis of views held with respect to marriage.”
Earlier this year, the Supreme Court struck down the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act, paving the way for legalized same sex marriage in all 50 states. The Republicans, not missing a step, have volleyed with a new bill that is aimed at protecting individuals, including for-profit corporations, that hold religious beliefs against same sex marriage and sex out of wedlock.
According to The Huffington Post, “The bill specifically protects those who believe that marriage is between one man and one woman or that sexual relations are properly reserved to such a marriage.”
If the Act passes, it will also make extremely difficult for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to do much about it. The EEOC is a federal organization for the express purpose of protecting women from sex-based discriminatory practices.
