Archer Actor George Coe Dies At 86

George Coe, star of Archer and original SNL cast member, passed away in his home in Santa Monica, California, at the age of 86.

George Coe, Oscar-nominated actor and SNL original cast member, has passed away at the age of 86 after enduring a long illness.

Best known for his work on Saturday Night Live, where he shared the stage with Chevy Chase and John Belushi, Coe has also been a long-time veteran of the acting community. Most recently, the Oscar-nominated actor was the voice of Sterling Archer’s long-suffering Butler, Woodhouse, on the hit comedy Archer on FX.

George Coe appeared on a number of hit TV shows, like The West Wing, Gilmore Girls, and Curb your Enthusiasm, to name a few, and was a fantastic character and comedy actor in his own right.

Coe was born in Jamaica, New York, and attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before his debut on Broadway in 1957. He had a lengthy career in the industry for over 50 years, working on screen and through voice-over—he was even the voice of Toyota.

He was awarded with the Screen Actors Guild Ralph Morgan award in 2009 for his service to the industry and was well-known for being a SAG activist.

The veteran actor was a staple character in many TV shows, and in the acting industry, and will be missed for his passion and talent for his roles and profession.

In his most recent role on Archer, George Coe brought great comedic timing and pathos to a character who may be overlooked by some, but had a resounding grounding nature on the show and on the title character. His talent shone through the screen, and through our eyes and ears.

He will be sorely missed. Thank you, George Coe, for all the wonderful characters you brought to life.
