Buh-Bye Stereotypes, Abrar Shahin Is Voted Best Dressed

Do you hear the stereotypes crumbling? It’s because Hijabi fashionista, Abrar Shahin, was voted for “Best Dressed,” showing that modesty can be trendy, too.

For some, fashion is all about following the latest trends and that’s fine. However, fashion is and should be about discovering yourself–it’s about finding the kind of apparel that makes you, You.

Sometimes, being yourself makes you “Best Dressed” at your high school.

Abrar Shahin, 18, is the recipient of such an honor, and it’s easy to see why:

Her interest in fashion started at a young age. She tells Buzzfeed that since she began to use the Internet, she would spend her time playing dress-up games. She even created outfits made out of socks for her Barbies! Nowadays, she looks up to Queen Rania of Jordan because she not only stays trendy, but she’s elegant and modest, and the other hijabi fashionistas on Instagram. Since the vote, she one day hopes to create her own line as well, even though she’s going to school for physical therapy.

As part of her Muslim faith, she’s required to wear a hijab, which is a covering for the head. On the other hand, she sees it more than just a covering–it’s her crown.

And crowns are fit for Queens.

“I just want to let every girl know out there that they shouldn’t be afraid to express themselves through their style. Nothing is more beautiful than a girl that stands up for what she believes in,” she says.
