With a patterned gray coat and staring intently at the camera, actor Idris Elba has made history as the first man to grace the cover of Maxim all by himself.  Regarding the choice to feature Elba, the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Kate Lanphear, simply said, “This is the very first time, and there was no one else in the world more badass than Idris.”

And we couldn’t agree more. Who can forget the ongoing campaign for Elba to take over the coveted James Bond role? Besides being an award-winning actor, Idris Elba has collaborated with fashion brand Superdry on a clothing line (set for release this fall). He’s a DJ, and he also broke the U.K. land speed record earlier this year, cementing his status as the most badass dreamboat on earth.

The September issue of the magazine doubles as the style edition, making its newly minted editor Lanphear’s first. Lanphear has an impressive track record in the style world, working at Elle and serving as style director for magazine. Looking at her goals and approach for Maxim, Elba’s spot on the cover is sure to be the first of many awesome changes to the magazine.
