Remembering Robin Williams

Robin Williams has been a great comfort and inspiration to so many people. It’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year. We miss you, buddy.

In this rapid, fast-paced world, time really does fly,  and sometimes we need to stop and just reflect on important events. Believe it or not, it has been a whole year since Robin Williams died, and I know I speak for everyone when I say that I am still not quite over the shock of his tragic passing.

It would take far too much time to list all the reasons why Robin Williams was, and still is, an icon. Comedic god, acting legend, warm-hearted humanitarian and most of all, a truly caring man who gave his children a wonderful life, and was a figure of great morals and kindness to his multitude of fans all over the world. Robin Williams was a man that beat addiction and managed to do what he did for decades – entertaining people, and it was something he did best.

I think we all remember where we were when we heard the tragically sad news that Robin had left us. For me, it was 5AM, when my father woke me and told me the news. He and I have always been enormous devotees of Robin Williams, and I was not in the least surprised to see the collective sadness was felt from all parts of the world. All deaths, celebrity or not, are equally tragic, but what set Robin’s death apart from many other celebrity deaths is how so many people felt the gut-wrenching blow when they heard. It felt like we weren’t only losing an entertainer, but losing a family member as well. For older generations, he was Mork. For younger generations, he was The Genie. He was so many things for so many different people, and everyone loved him.

It is still raw to write this, a year later. Robin Williams was the very best at what he did. From comedy to drama to the occasional horror, to singing and dancing, to voice-over work, Robin was a force of nature, and someone who will truly be missed, not only for today, but for as long as his work continues to be seen and loved by so many people. He’ll be sorely missed.
