Uggie, The Canine Star Of The Artist, Dies-Age 13

Uggie the big screen canine star and scene-stealer in “The Artist” has passed away at the age of 13 after an illness.

Perhaps the most famous canine to ever star on the big screen in modern times, Jack Russell terrier Uggie, who shot to fame in the French silent movie The Artist, has been put to sleep after an illness (epic sad face).

In the film, Uggie played “The Dog”, the loyal (but adorably cute!) companion of George Valentin played by Jean Dujardin. The Artist went on to win 5 Oscars in 2012, including best picture while Uggie himself was also rewarded with a Palm de’ Dog award that years’ Cannes film festival.

Sarah Clifford who worked with Uggie on the film said upon news of his death:

“I will forever hold him dearly in my heart and never forget his infinite love for chicken and hotdogs.”

The pooch narrowly avoided being put down as a pup and was subsequently trained by Omar von Muller, who went on to lead him into a showbiz career.

Prior to his star turn in The Artist, Uggie also featured alongside Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson in Water For Elephants.

RIP, Little fella.  *tears*
