Former star of The Vampire Diaries, Nina Dobrev, 26, got emotional last night as she attended the Teen Choice Awards and won in the category of “TV actress: sci-fi/fantasy.”
Having announced earlier this year that she was exiting the hit show to take on new challenges, walking up onto the stage to collect her surfboard award, after hugging her (no joke) doppelgänger Victoria Justice, once at the podium, she turned to address her audience wearing (what else) fake vampire teeth.
Unsurprisingly, she didn’t keep them in long as she struggled to give her speech, so upon removing them, which led to an “awww” from the crowd, she went on to say:
“The last two months have been a pretty big change for me. Change. It’s a scary word – or at least I used to think that – because it meant new beginnings, new beginnings with a future that’s unknown.”
She continued by saying, as the emotions began to take over:
“As this chapter in my life comes to an end, I look back at it with a grateful heart, and I smile. Just like my character Elena, I started the show as a young girl, and together we’ve grown up, and over the last six years, we’ve become women.”
She gave heartfelt thanks to show creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson before ending her speech with a message to the millions of fans who have grown up with her on their screens:
“Thank you guys. Each and every single one of you, I love you. And thank you for coming along on this amazing journey. So remember, change is coming, so hold on and enjoy the ride, all right? It’s going to be fun.”
Though it’s sad to see Nina leave
The Vampire Diaries
, we wish her all the best and are excited to see the next stop on along her amazing journey!
