The Goonies House No Longer Open To Visitors

The house from The Goonies is still standing in Astoria, Oregon. However, the woman who owns it has recently decided to close the site to visitors.

According to Astoria city officials, more than 1,500 people visit the Goonies house every day, even thirty years after the movie’s release. While many visitors are friendly and visit the house without disrupting the homeowners, there are many that are not. Dogs urinated on the lawn nearly constantly, while beer bottles and cigarette butts would liter the yard every day. And what’s worse, hundreds of people standing on the lawn and doing the famous Truffle Shuffle on a daily basis. The homeowner finally said enough is enough.

Signs have now been posted in front of the house reading “Access closed to Goonies house” and “Imagine that you buy a house, fix it up, spend money, time and love. Then the city of Astoria encourages 100,000’s of people to come and stand in front and view it. This driveway (maintained by homeowners) sees 1,000+ people every day.
