Boy, 13, Charged With Assault For Kiss With Girl, 14

A young boy has been charged with second degree assault after he giving a kiss to a girl on a dare.

In Maryland, apparently it is normal practice for teachers to call the police on a 13 year-old-boy who kissed a girl.

The kiss, which was unwanted by the girl, happened during school hours. The boy was dared by other students to kiss the girl, and he is now facing second degree assault charges because of a KISS.

A spokesman for the police has stated that no one was injured in the kiss. Really? Whew, I was worried there.

What warranted a second degree assault charge, which is implying the boy had intentions of hurting her, is completely beyond me. Instead of the principal talking to him to explain — or even call the parents so they can explain — the police were involved. What caused this? What made it necessary to have an eighth grade boy charged with assault for kissing a girl? What’s even more astounding is that the boy could even be expelled or suspended due to this. (As if having his dare pop up all over the news and Internet isn’t enough humiliation…)

This isn’t the first case either; countless reports have been made of sexual misconduct between juveniles, but where is the line? Should this 13 year old really have a criminal record because he was put up to kissing a girl when others who have committed worse infractions (like sexting) walk away scot-free? Should his education seriously be compromised because of such a minuscule mistake?
