Nerdy News Nine: September 16, 2015
Hello again, PopWrappers! I’ve got an amazing round-up of nerdy news this week, so let’s jump straight into it:
9. Somebody mashed up Friends with Harry Potter.
Apparently, this has been out for a while, but it has made my life. Personally, I would’ve used the Dumbledore claps… but this is acceptable.
8. There are a lot of new Harry Potter books you can buy.
These overpriced beauties come in your preferred House color. These minimalist designs are gorgeous, will glow in the dark on your bookshelf AND come with pop-up illustrations. There’s a new HP coloring book which is being advertised as the “first official” one (um, no – I totally have these) and the first real illustrated HP books, drawn by Jim Kay, are being teased.
7. Rachel McAdams is going to be in Doctor Strange.
Now before you go judging, who knew the guy from The O.C. would be such a great Jim Gordon? She didn’t say what role she’d be taking on, but at least we have some solid information instead of rumors.
6. There is a FriendsFest going on in London.
Gunther is there and I am not. I know if I were in Monica’s apartment, I’d squeal and jump like the fangirl I am… but then again, I might disturb the late Mr. Heckles’ birds. (He could have birds.)
5. Newt Scamander might’ve known Edward Cullen.
In this adorable theory, Nicole from MuggleNet discusses how these two may have met way back in the day. This, however, still doesn’t explain Cullen’s uncanny resemblance to Cedric Diggory.
4. Kaya Scodelario talks Pirates 5
Her character is an “academic” fighting to get into university by searching for the same relic Captain Jack Sparrow is. Scodelario says this film will be much more like the first Pirates than the others were. Also, yay Orlando Bloom!
3. King Kong vs. Godzilla?
As much as I love both of those guys, it would be pretty epic to see them go at it. I just hope they find a common enemy and become friends and whatnot. It also turns out that Tom Hiddleston will be in the next King Kong movie called Kong: Skull Island. (Where have I been?)
2. Nickelodeon finally listens to us 90’s nerds with The Splat.
This all nineties channel will deliver Doug, Rugrats, Ren and Stimpy, and all of those favorites we love. Now to get Disney Channel to bring back regular airings of Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevens at normal hours.
1. The Harry Potter Alliance celebrates 10 years.
Even if I hadn’t been supporting the HPA from the moment I heard of it, I would be flipping over some of these things you can buy for their newest fundraiser. A decade of fighting real-life dementors, Death Eaters, and evil baddies really must be celebrated with some of this swag.
