When Ryan Adams first said that he was going to cover Taylor Swift’s entire 1989 album, a lot of people — myself included — thought it was just a joke. Today, Adams made good on the claim, releasing the whole album for download and online stream.
Adams seems to have brought a real sense of heartbreak and vulnerability to Swift’s album. He has enlisted some world-class musicians to help him adapt the music to his style, and the result is shockingly effective. I can’t wait to sit down and listen to the complete album.
I wasn’t the only one stoked for the album. Swift, herself, tweeted about her excitement last week:
Ryan’s music helped shape my songwriting. This is surreal and dreamlike. Countdown to #RyanAdams1989 @TheRyanAdams pic.twitter.com/pGZB0uUqiB

I’d love to hear what she thinks now that she’s had the opportunity to listen to the finished product!
1989 (Ryan Adams) is available for download on iTunes or streaming on Spotify. Watch Adams’ video for “Bad Blood” below, and stay tuned for the PopWrapped review of 1989!
