Allons-y! David Tennant Returning As 10th Doctor

David Tennant has signed on to reprise his role as the 10th Doctor in a series of audio books from Big Finish Productions!

That’s right, Doctor Who fans! It seems David Tennant will be returning to his role as the tenth Doctor in a series of audio books produced by UK-based production company and publisher, Big Finish. The company has produced many titles featuring the classic Doctors over the years and only recently acquired the rights to the post-2005 Doctor Who characters including the Doctors, River Song, Strax, the Weeping Angels and Torchwood.

This won’t be Tennant’s first foray into audio books. Tennant has given voice to several Doctor Who audio books since 2006 as well as children’s books, including the How To Train Your Dragon series by Cressida Cowell. This is, however, the first time we could hear an audio book that will feature Tennant alongside fellow Doctor Who cast members in a format that reads more like an audio play than your regular audio book, typically read by only one narrator.

Joining Tennant on his adventures will be Catherine Tate, better known to Whovians as companion, Donna Noble.  We last saw Tennant and Tate together in The End Of Time, the heart wrenching finale for the Tenth Doctor and one from which many Whovians have still not recovered (this writer included). No details have been given about the story or a release date.

But fear not, Whovians, there is plenty to look forward to in the immediate future from Big Finish! Just released this month is the first in a new Torchwood series entitled The Conspiracy, starring John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness. In October, Torchwood’s Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd)  returns in Fall To Earth. And in November, Gwen Cooper (Eve Myles) and Rhys Williams (Kai Owen) come back in Forgotten Lives. Also slated for release is Doom Coalition. Due out in March of 2016, part 2 will feature Alex Kingston, reprising her role as River Song in an adventure with Paul McGann’s Eighth Doctor.

For those of us yearning for a return of those beloved characters during Tennant’s run, it’s a good time to be a Whovian! We’ll be sure to let you know as soon as a release date and plot have been announced for Tennant’s books. Until then, we’ll be checking out these new adventures with the Torchwood crew. Be sure to drop us a message if you give them a listen and let us know what you think!
