Timber From Banksy’s Dismaland To Build Refugee Shelters

Renowned artist Banksy has announced that once his Dismaland display has been dismantled, the timber will be sent to build shelters for refugees.

Controversial street-artist Banksy opened his ironic theme park Dismaland five weeks ago; during this time it has said to have brought in over £20 million ($30 million) to the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare, England.

Banksy recently announced via his website that the park will be closing and the timber and fixtures will be sent to the migrant camp in Calais.

Europe is currently facing a refugee crisis, and many people have offered their support, but this is believed to e the biggest show of solidarity by a public figure to date. The camp in Calais, France is known by the refugees and the media as “The Jungle” and houses around 3,500 refugees; Banksy hopes that the remains of his theme park will help build shelters.

Many controversial topics were addressed in the theme park, and the refugee crisis was on one of them.

On the final night of the park, the infamous band Pussy Riot performed their song “Refugee,” which was about how the European politicians have been dealing with this situation.
