You don’t have to be a huge fan of The Good Wife to know that Archie Panjabi’s final scene last year was a bit controversial. Panjabi and the show’s star Julianna Margulies reportedly HATE each other, leading to scenes including both of them to be reduced over the series — to the point where they had rarely ever shared the screen in the past three years.
Panjabi and Margulies were supposedly giving their fans exactly what they wanted in Panjabi’s character Kalinda’s send-off — both of their leading ladies acting chummy in their favourite bar. The scene wasn’t all it first appeared, though, as it was obvious that they didn’t even film the scene together. Each woman’s portion was later digitally combined to look like they were enjoying one last hurrah together.
Many fans were outraged, but there were no comments from Margulies … until now. In an interview with Vulture, Margulies said:
Right, I’ve heard about [the feud]. Who says that? It’s totally gossip. I heard that question had been asked to Robert King. There’s no story there, sorry … I actually had heard [that rumor] and I feel that it has been talked about and answered. I feel people just like to have gossip or make something into something that isn’t there. There’s no animosity on my part.
She added:
It was shot the way Robert wanted to shoot it, and the story line, too. You also have to remember, there’s difficulty … [Panjabi] was also doing another show, called The Fall. I went along with whatever Robert asked me to do and I did it happily.
Okay, all well and good. It wasn’t Margulies using her pull as a producer — starting in Season Three, the same time that her screen time with Panjabi was reduced — to ensure they were never face-to-face. Scheduling conflicts happen all the time, right? Well, Panjabi had something to say about this ‘scheduling conflict’:
