It’s the era of reboots and revivals, with series such as Fox’s The X-Files/Lethal Weapon, a planned Prison Break revival, The CW’s upcoming The Notebook/Friday the 13th, and
20th Century Fox Television’s plan to reboot The A-Team.
Hot on the heels of that announcement, CBS has announced it will be bringing MacGyver “back to the small screen.” The original MacGyver lasted for seven seasons with a grand total of 139 episodes; Young MacGyver –the spin-off series starring Supernatural’s Jared Padalecki–was not picked up for a series order, and New Line’s plans for a MacGyver film are still in development, with James Wan as the planned director.
CBS’ revival of MacGyver will feature a penned script by NCIS: Los Angeles’ R. Scott Gemmill, who will be an executive producer, along with the original series executive producer Henry Winkler. Michael Clear, “James Wan’s Atomic Monster head of production,” will also serve as an executive producer, while Wan is set to direct the pilot; he’ll be an executive producer as well.
CBS seems dead-set on bringing the hit series back, which followed the adventures of MacGyver “as he gets recruited into a clandestine organization where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening.”
