Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible Made More Money than The Avengers

If you haven’t seen Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, I would suggest dropping what you’re doing and setting aside the next 45 minutes for a musical experience like no other. If you have seen it (first of all, watch it again), you’ll know what I mean when I say it very clearly was not a high-budget production.

While the 2008 three-part mini-musical, directed by Joss Whedon, boasts some high-profile celebs (Neil Patrick Harris, Felicia Day, Nathan Fillion), it was no blockbuster film. Wheadon’s 2012 film The Avengers, however, had a budget upwards of $1.5 billion and was one of the biggest movies of the year.

Therefore, it came as quite a shock when Whedon revealed recently that Dr. Horrible was far more financially successful than The Avengers. According to The A.V. Club, Whedon netted quite a bit less for one of the biggest movies in recent years than his low-budget online mini-musical.

However, The A.V. Club reminds us, we shouldn’t cry for Whedon, as The Avengers 2 brought in more money than either production.
