Oh, Jeb “Exclamation Point,” you are on a roll, aren’t you? Republican presidential candidate, Jeb Bush, clearly enjoys the salty taste of his own foot in his mouth because these days, he just can’t seem to stop shoving it in there. At a forum in Las Vegas on Wednesday night, Bush was asked who is his favorite superhero from the Marvel Universe.
With a roll of his eyes and a snarky attitude, Bush blundered his way through the question because how DARE anyone ask a question that might accidentally humanize a presidential candidate, right? And any American citizen who hasn’t been living under a rock for the last eight years should be able to answer this question with at least a vague idea of what characters hail from the Marvel Universe. Well, apparently not because after babbling about how much he would like to own Marvel because he is a “capitalist,” pretending to be an “old school guy” who “prefers Batman” and letting us know that “someone” told him about a “new show called Ant-Man,” Bush then landed on Supergirl. Good ol’ Jeb said he’d caught a trailer for the new show and that, “She looked pretty hot.” Gross.

Setting aside the fact that Bush doesn’t know the difference between Marvel and DC, his complete inability to come up with any adjective for Supergirl other than “hot” is incredibly insulting to women and to an industry that has worked so hard to give us a roster of such incredible female superheroes. He could have used the opportunity to chat about the potential a show like Supergirl has to give a new generation of little girls a superhero to look up to; a symbol of bravery, honor, intelligence and strength. After all, it’s Supergirl…he’s certainly familiar with Superman; the talking points are really not that hard to come by.
This certainly won’t be the last time Bush says something stupid in his attempt to win the White House. But he might want to remember that dismissing a question he might feel isn’t worth his time answering, could cost him a lot of votes and numbers at the polls.
