Ricky Gervais To Host The Golden Globes In 2016

Ricky Gervais has just been announced as the host for the 2016 Golden Globe awards, despite his previous controversial performances.

Just a week after Chris Rock was announced as the host for the 88th Academy Awards, we have received the amazing news that Ricky Gervais will be returning as host of the Golden Globes next year, and he is an absolute stellar choice for the hosting gig.

For those of you who aren’t aware of Ricky’s infamous hosting history, he hosted the Golden Globes for three consecutive years from 2010-2012, and he caused quite a bit of controversy for his sometimes tasteless — but often hilarious — jokes about Hollywood. Being a Hollywood outsider, his caustic and sometimes boundary-pushing jokes would shoot for the kill, but it is all part of his charm. They asked him back twice after the initial controversy, and they seem willing to bring him back again, which I think is a brilliant decision.

Ricky last hosted in 2012, and between 2013 and 2015, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the show; the comedy duo decided not to return or renew their contracts.

Gervais is a hilarious comedian who isn’t afraid to go for the jugular with his comedy, and he is an amazing activist who has been working very hard to promote animal rights. Here’s hoping this cause will make an appearance on the show in some way!

The 73rd Golden Globe Awards will be broadcast on NBC on January 10, 2016.
