Clare Bowen is an Australian actress best known for playing Scarlett O’Connor on ABC’s country music-fueled Nashville. The actress is renowned for her talents on the show, but she is also characterized by her flowing golden hair — or she was until she chopped it all off. Now, Bowen is rocking a short pixie cut, still looking flaw-free, and, most importantly, she is making a point about standards of beauty.

“It’s just hair,” Clare Bowen titled the stunning photo of her recent restyling. In the accompanying post, she explains exactly why she cut her hair off, and the answer is moving.
Bowen explained her experience with losing her hair to experimental treatments meant to help her overcome end stage nephroblastoma at four years old. She details growing up with children who were “mostly bald, all tubed, taped, bandaged up and stitched back together,” just like she was. Luckily, she survived and has beaten her disease, but a recent story brought her back to her youth.
“I was really inspired when I heard a story about a little girl who said she couldn’t be a princess because she didn’t have long hair,” Bowen explained. “I wanted her, and others like her, to know that’s not what makes a princess, or a warrior, or a superhero. It’s not what makes you beautiful either. It’s your insides that count,” she reflected touchingly.
The actress went on to state that it is important to look deep within yourself to find your beauty. “That is where you have the potential to shine the brightest from. It is where your true beautiful self lives.”
Her new haircut proves that you don’t need flowing locks of hair to be considered beautiful; that hair is just that. She channels her beauty from within, and it reflects much more beautifully for that reason.
Since Clare Bowen posted her stunning new photo, so many supportive messages from fans and fellow women who have struggled with hair loss. “I love your gorgeous hair, but I love YOU even more for sharing your story. Here’s to strength and love,” one woman posted. Others posted images of loved ones, all of whom would be influenced by the decision in the coming months.
