Citizens Of Earth! Mystery Science Theater 3000 Needs Your Help!

If you’ve been missing science fiction snark in your life, you may be pleased to learn there is a Mystery Science Theater 3000 Kickstarter for new episodes!

Joel Hodgson is a name that may not mean much to many people in 2015, but everyone should know him. Those who don’t recognize the name should google Mystery Science Theater 3000, bask in the ridiculous premise, watch an episode on YouTube, and laugh your ass off.

To get you up to speed, MST3K (as it is often known) is about Joel and two robots watching terrible movies, providing ad lib commentary that is usually hilarious. You have done this with good friends, eight selections from the Redbox or a Netflix marathon session. Starting on Canandian public television, it spanned a whirlwind journey from network to network over 12 years before finally getting the ax for good from Comedy Central in 1999.

It was truly a sad day for everyone who loves science fiction, comedy, and the inane. This show was a bastion, a place to hide away in their ridiculous world, watch a bad movie, and laugh at these three voices applying the right amount of hilarity at the perfect time. So why is this article being written about a show that has not been on television in over 15 years?

Joel Hodgson has started a Kickstarter fund to make more episodes! If the crowd-funding can raise $2,000,000 they can make three feature length episodes, then, after that precipice has been reached, for each additional $1.1 million raised will be good for three more episodes. Ultimately, the goal is to raise enough for a full 12 episode season that would almost be a lock to be swooped up by a number of companies.

So people of Earth, you are needed, no!, implored to help make this a reality. This show laid the foundation of most online forums, discussion board, and live tweeting with people about programs people watch. This must happen because, in this day and age of craziness, we just need two robots and a human making fun of bad content.
