Jared Fogle Gets More Than 15 Years In Prison

Jared Fogle was sentenced to 15 years and 8 months after pleading guilty to two charges related to sex with minors and child pornography.

Former Subway spokesperson, Jared Fogle, pleaded guilty to one count of distribution and receipt of child pornography and traveling to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor. Fogle was sentenced to almost 16 years in a federal prison.

According to the Associated Press, prosecutors recommended a sentence of just over 12 years, but U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Walton Pratt gave the convicted felon even more time — 15.6 years in total — and said “The level of perversion and lawlessness exhibited by Mr. Fogle is extreme.”

Fogle was taken into federal custody immediately, and he was asked to remove his tie, suit jacket and belt before he was handcuffed. As he was led away, he blew kisses to his family.

It was announced in August that Fogle would plead guilty to the charges, after the allegations against him became known in July.

Previously released court documents state that Fogle used a number of websites to solicit sex and that he traveled to perform sexual acts with minors. It is also thought that Fogle received videos and images of nude children from Russell Taylor, who was the former executive director of Fogle’s charity.

Before he was sentenced, Fogle delivered a brief statement and apologized:

“Not a day will go by when I don’t think about what I did to [the victims] … Members of my family are also victims of my acts.”

He also stated that his wife will now be a single mother. The judge interrupted him at this point and said, “You gave your wife $7 million, so she’ll be okay.”
