New Facebook Settings Allow You To Banish Exes From Newsfeed

Facebook, in an effort to make breakups less awkward on the social platform, have introduced some new settings.

In the age of social media, there’s some significance when you become “Facebook official” with your significant other. But just as social media allows people the ability to chronicle new beginnings, there’s always been the slight awkwardness when a relationship status changes back to single on Facebook.

This week, Facebook has begun to provide a few new options on the mobile app to help with the awkwardness that follows break ups and make the separation a little bit more bearable. Upon switching the relationship status back to single, users have the option of seeing less of your former significant other on your News Feed.

Another option to help with the break up while still remaining Facebook friends is the option to prevent your ex from seeing the latest things that you post. So now you can cope with your feelings without the worry of being judged by your ex in peace (or at least until one of their friends shows a screenshot of it, but it’s the thought that counts.)

The final option that the social network provides is the option to hide or untag all the posts during your previous relationship. As cute and adorable as it was in the moment, looking back at how grossly immersed you were in your significant other could be slightly embarrassing in hindsight.

So worry not, young social media junkies, you may continue to use Facebook to chronicle your life & experience minimal pain from heartbreak thanks to social media. These options may not be as therapeutic as curling up in a fluffy blanket with a tub of ice cream while watching bad romantic comedies, but it sure can help.
