Pop 5 Worst Episodes Of Buffy The Vampire Slayer

Buffy The Vampire Slayer ran for six years and had 144 episodes, all of which were epic in their own way; however, with a stake to our heart, we have whittled down the top 5 worst episodes:

5) “Into The Woods” (Season 5, Episode 10)

This episode is when (finally) Buffy and Riley split up, and, although Sarah Michelle’s portrayal of heartbreak is always beautiful, it is that ending… After Buffy finds out her beau has been letting vampires feed off him. Buffy runs after him, which, despite being completely out of character, shows a terrible message: Buffy was distracted (by her dying mother), therefore deserved to be cheated on? Sure…

4) “Wrecked” (Season 6, Episode 10)

The problem with “Wrecked” is that it appears very preachy. The metaphor is clear in that Willow is treating magic like a drug. It changes her; she becomes addicted, and she starts to burn out and crashes a car whilst driving “high”. The message is so blatant that the potentially interesting episode just left us waiting for us to get our buzz on.

3) “I Robot, You Jane” (Season 1, Episode 8)

Set way before social media and the internet we know and love, “I Robot, You Jane” is one of the only Buffy episodes that has aged very badly. Willow meets a “boy” online, who turns out to be evil and wants to kill her. Although the message is still kind of relevant (don’t meet strangers offline in case you are not sure), the lingo used and apparent neo-Luddite view of the internet is no longer relevant.

2) “Where The Wild Things Are” (Season 4, Episode 18)

“Where The Wild Things Are” is a standard haunted house episode, but with one difference: this house was making Buffy and Riley have a lot — like, a lot — of sex.  It appears to be quite the filler episode and just slightly uncomfortable. Even the first appearance of Giles singing can’t save this episode.

1) “Beer Bad” (Season 4, Episode 5)

This episode, based at the start of Buffy’s college journey, leads with the simple message: beer = bad.  Whilst Buffy drinks herself into oblivion and literally starts becoming a cave woman, it was the viewers that were left with the hangover.
